Murai Family Nigori Genshu Sake

Hm

I grade sake by its aroma. The stronger its aroma, the better. I also take its price into grading. If something is way too expensive, that’s going to affect its grading negatively unless it has got a God-tier aroma or something to offset its price.

I also take its taste into account although it’s not a significant factor. But, if something tastes unique in a positive way, then bonus points.

Murai sake

Costing 19 CAD per a 300ml bottle, this is expensive sake. This is unfiltered sake which has a tendency to taste sweet. And it does taste sweet.

This sake should have some sugar but I was unable to find exactly how much sugar is in it. By taste alone, I feel it’s 35mg/L which is the general average for unfiltered sake.

Additionally, its alcohol content is almost 20% which is very high for general sake. Most sake I’ve drunk, its alcohol content has been between 13% ~ 16%. So, this is a pretty strong sake, and I did feel more intense warmth in my stomach as I drank it.

As for aroma, it has a sweet aroma, but generally unfiltered sake tend to taste smooth and go down real smooth. By taste alone, this sake is virtually identical to Nigori Creme de Sake but has a stronger kick due to higher alcohol content.

So, overall, I will say this is decent sake. Be mindful of its 20% alcohol content because there is a chance that your body might not be able to handle it. I felt tipsy upon 3rd sip which was unusual. It generally takes at least 5 sips for me to feel tipsy.

So, this is a strong sake. Intended or not, the demon image on the label is a good indicator.
