Junmai Ginjo Karahashi Sake
The duck?
I grade sake by its aroma. The stronger its aroma, the better. I also take its price into grading. If something is way too expensive, that’s going to affect its grading negatively unless it has got a God-tier aroma or something to offset its price.
I also take its taste into account although it’s not a significant factor. But, if something tastes unique in a positive way, then bonus points.
The sake?
Costing 38 CAD per a 720m bottle, this is middle-high end sake. This is filtered sake with … a twist.
Well, read on.
This sake is carbonated. I was pretty surprised when I poured the drink down into my sake cup. I saw bubbles.
When I tasted it, it felt really similar to ginger ale. It’s somewhat sweet and very slightly bitter. Because this is carbonated, you should not warm this sake.
I don’t think the label indicates that this is an alcoholic soft drink. I was let down by it because I wasted almost 40 CAD for this.
Now, this is not my kind of sake but honestly it wasn’t too bad. Still, it’s overly too sweet … in spite of having no sugar content at all. My advice is that you shouldn’t warm this and drink as is in room temp.
My verdict is that it is decent. Not my kind of sake but I can see its places. You can drink casually with your pals. This does not taste like an alcoholic drink, more like ginger ale.
Finally, the sake has a yellow color to it.
