Izumi Nigori Junmai Sake

Hmmm….

I grade sake by its aroma. The stronger its aroma, the better. I also take its price into grading. If something is way too expensive, that’s going to affect its grading negatively unless it has got a God-tier aroma or something to offset its price.

I also take its taste into account although it’s not a significant factor. But, if something tastes unique in a positive way, then bonus points.

Izumi Nigori Junmai Sake

The fuck did I just drink? was actually my first impression.

Just few facts out first. This is unfiltered sake. Thus, it is cloudy, very cloudy with bits floating on surface when you pour it. Like all unfiltered sake, this one has some sugar but has the least of it as far as I can tell which is 12g/L. Other unfiltered sake I’ve drunk, they had at least 25g/L. This is less than half of that.

Costing 17.50 CAD per a 375ml bottle, it sits on high end of medium-priced sake. The liquor has got a yellow tint. With it being unfiltered sake, it has overall off-white color to it.

Like I said above, the taste and aroma of this sake is weird. It tastes bitter, and its aroma is also bitter. Yes, it’s just bitter. There is nothing else. Unless I am missing something vital here, this sake is bloody awful.
