Hakkaisan Happo Nigori Sparkling Sake

Sparkling, I guess?

I grade sake by its aroma. The stronger its aroma, the better. I also take its price into grading. If something is way too expensive, that’s going to affect its grading negatively unless it has got a God-tier aroma or something to offset its price.

I also take its taste into account although it’s not a significant factor. But, if something tastes unique in a positive way, then bonus points.

“Sparkling” sake

Costing 19 CAD for a 360ml, this sake is a middle-range drink you can buy. Now, this is filtered sake with a big twist. The “sparkling” part is a strong indicator that this is a carbonated sake.

And it was. You can see on the label where it lists carbon dioxide as one of its ingredients. However, it does not list sugar. In fact, no sake lists sugar. Unfiltered sake does contain sugar, and I have to go to their website or LCBO website to find out how much sugar they have. It’s an oversight in my book.

I am mentioning sugar here because this sake tastes way too sweet. Sugar is in there; I just don’t know how much.

This sake should NOT be warmed. Drink as is or chill it because it tastes exactly like ginger ale. It is very sweet with what you can expect from a carbonated drink.

I am not someone who is in favor of this sort of sake but I won’t grade it as awful because I can certainly see its application.
